Metropolis (1926)

A film of truly epic proportions, the cast includes 8 principals, 750 minor cast members and 37,750 extras, it was two years in the making and ran originally for 150 minutes although it was slashed by 30 minutes for US release and most video versions run at approx 139 mins.
